If your exhaust emissions lambda reading is incorrect it could need an oxygen sensor. In Gillingham Medway, Autoexperts Medway is the local garage who can diagnose and replace your vehicles oxygen sensor.
The lambda sensor is more commonly known as an exhaust gas oxygen sensor or O2 sensor. The lambda sensor sends a signal to the ECU to help balance the fuel/air mixture delivered to the combustion chamber.
The correct air/fuel ratio allows the catalyst to break down emissions effectively. It senses the amount of unburnt oxygen in the exhausts gases and sends a voltage signal. The output varies between 0.2 volts (lean) and 0.8 volts (rich). A perfectly balanced fuel/air mixture is 14.7 parts of air to 1 part of fuel giving a voltage of 0.45 volts.
The ECU interprets the current output from the sensor and adjusts the amount of fuel delivered through the fuel injectors in response to the air flow signal to provide the perfect fuel/air mix for efficient combustion. The ECU also receives signals from the Throttle Position Sensor, the Camshaft Position Sensor, the Oxygen Sensor (Lambda) and the Coolant Temperature Sensor to send exactly the right signal to the fuel injector. The EML would normally come on if any one of these sensors are faulty.

When carrying out a diagnosis a partial strip down may be necessary. Should your vehicle be stripped down and you agree to have the necessary work carried out. This initial diagnosis becomes part of the repair and this will probably reduce the overall repair costs.
