Spark plugs are a device for delivering electric current from an ignition system to the combustion chamber in an engine. Spark plugs ignite the fuel and air mixture as it is compressed at exactly the correct time.
A spark plug is screwed into the cylinder head of the engine and is therefore physically earthed.

Metals such as Iridium, tungsten, palladium or yttrium are used in the manufacture of spark plugs. Similarly platinum, silver and gold are also used. They are higher in value but they allow the use of a smaller centre wire that will not melt or corrode away easily.
These types have a much greater life span. Hence they are extremely expensive to purchase sometimes as much as 5 times more.
