In the refrigeration cycle, heat is removed from inside a vehicle to the environment. A household fridge is another example of similar system.
Circulating refrigerant vapour enters the compressor which is located in the engine bay. It is compressed to a higher pressure. The compressed refrigerant vapour is now at a temperature and pressure at which it can be condensed. It flows through a condenser, usually located in front of the car’s radiator.
The condenser cools the refrigerant by the air flowing across the condenser coils and condenses into a liquid. Thus, the circulating refrigerant ejects heat from the system and the heat is carried away by the air.
The cold refrigerant is then routed through the evaporator. The evaporator is located inside the vehicle and is normally associated or attached to the heating system. The air (which is to be cooled) blows across the evaporator. This causes the liquid part of the cold refrigerant mixture to evaporate as well, further lowering the temperature. The warm air is therefore cooled. To complete the refrigeration cycle, the refrigerant vapour is routed back into the compressor. The compressor is driven by the car’s engine (e.g. via a belt) or by an electric motor.
The most common fault with air con is the loss of gas or pressure in the system. This can occur naturally over time or be due to a leak on the system allowing the gas to escape.
We have established a superb reputation for high quality replacement services. Refer to our testimonials from our customers from Gillingham, Chatham, and Rochester on our testimonial page. If your vehicle’s air conditioning is not working properly come to Auto Experts Medway in Gillingham.
If your air con is only blowing warm air, the air con will almost definitely need a re gas or charge. Our technicians check the air conditioning first to see if there are any leaks on the system. This makes the air con re gas cheaper because should a leak be found then we will only charge a nominal fee. Our charge for checking the system does vary but starts from as little as £45. If after your air con re gas system check has been carried we simply finish off the re gassing process. The cost to do this is just the price of the gas used, which is generally an extra £20.
For less inconvenience why not tag on your air con recharge when you have your next service done with us. We are close to both Gillingham and Rochester in Medway making us the idea garage to choose.
